Default Ford 8.8 questions

For those who swapped in ford 8.8s on their xjs

Did u experience axle wrap issues with the axle? Because someone told me that If you took an axle originally designed for spring under axle, and put it as spring over axle, axle wrap is highly likely to happen.

Anyone run 31s or 33s on the 8.8? How many inches from bottom of pumpkin housing to ground?

That can be said for any axle, not just the 8.8.

This is why I always recommend Anti-Wrap Perches and included them in my 8.8 swap Kit.

spring over is always more prone to axle wrap than spring under. just the science of how the torque is applied. spring over has more leverage. I had serious axle wrap issues before the swap and only got worse with the lower gears. but i was running stock 200K springs. with my new springs zero problems at all

Yes that's what serious told me, I know I will definitely be running 33's in the future, the 31s is just temporary. I just thought I could build an axle before getting 33s though. That's why I wanted to check with people who run 33s on the 8.8 and see what they feel about it.

The perches are longer than lets say the set I have from curries (for my old car). The length is evident when placed next to the stock stuff on the 8.8 or the D35.

They're simply longer than OEM perches....quite a bit longer actually. They also have rolled leading and trailing edges to prevent snapping a leaf where it meets the perch.

Got it. Thanks. I was getting bit confused because my friend had a perch welded on his 8.8 on the YJ and made a fifth traction bar to it... That's what I thought you guys were talking about until you cleared it up about it being longer than factory.
