Few suspension questions... Which shocks and limiting strap length.
Im in the market for new shocks, and I cannot find out which ones I would need. Im going after Bilstein 5100s or RE monotubes. I can get both for around 300 shipped for 4. But Im unsure on which Bilsteins I would need to get.
I have a 97 XJ sport.
Also what size straps would I need to get too? They are measured at the max stroke of the shock, right? And I need them just for the front basically, correct?
Oh and I have a 6.5" long travel lift too..

The way I got my measurement for the shocks I got. I took out the old shocks. I flexed it out. Measured where the shocks mount to axel and vehicle. That measurement gives you the extended length. If you have a kit lift. You could contact the manufacturer and ask their recommended length.
Personally I'd do the Bilstein shocks. I'm having my Fox shocks revavled for my jeep specifically for a better ride quality. But I think the Bilsteins are the better out of box shocks. But maybe consider having them valved according to your rig.
Your other question was for limiting straps? Are you on a long arm or short arm?

to get exact measurements you are going to need to cycle your suspension. but look in the 12" stroke range.
the length of strap will be based on how you mount it for one. mount it so there is about 1" left of travel in the shock.
mine are mounted like so...

Exactly. The last thing you said is a good point. Straps stretch...

I dont really wheel mine like I would like to. So getting a more precise application is good yeah, but ehh Its easier for me to just swap them ya know? Theres plenty of people running skyjacker and RC white bodies out fo the box and doing fine, ya know?
I seen these for 302 shipped on 4wheelparts.com
Are these Cherokee specific? It says soo...
