fender trimming with stock flares
i wanna trim much as i can. im about to put in a 4.5 rouch country x flex front lift. shackle relocation kit shackle and bastard pack rear, and i have 31x 11.50 with d window wheels unsure of back spacing. i wanna trim as much as i can while keeping my stock flares. i couldnt find much info on this. so as much info and pics as i can get would be great. i know i dont need to trim to clear the 31s but i would like to regear and go 33s

i think the issue with keeping the stock flares and fitting them onto trimmed metal is that they become to short... cause where is sits now, they come right to the bottom of vehicle, but if you cut the metal higher, then the flares sit higher, resulting in gap... personally (and this does clash with the law sometimes) i like no flares... something about a well trimmed fender with the smooth lines... idk, prob cause xj's are so boxy that i think it just fits the profile well... sorry this is more me just thinking, then offering suggestions... :\

Yeah I know what u mean about refitting the stock flares to cut fenders. I didn't know alot about it I just saw some1 mention it and I was curious. And I don't think I can just take my flares off cuz on my 01 the bumper flares out with the flare... The jeep is super clean and I dont mine tastefully trimming it I just don't wanna hack I up. I wanna keep it real clean.

Just a suggestion, but trim the fenders and move the stock flares up. Then find an extra set of flares and trim the amount off them to fill the open space and mount them below your flares. Mount the extra pieces close enough to your flares and the gap will be minimal, so it won't be very noticeable. I didn't have to deal with your particular issue being that mines older, but i used the stock flares after trimming.

I did the rear, I just cut slits with some snips, bent the tabs over and put some zip ties through the stock flare bolt holes to some holes I drilled in my flare.

Did this on my 96 up front, I will try to remember to get pics up tomorrow. I just measured 1-1.5" higher from 7 mounting holes (3 for the top flare section, and I believe 2 from the front and the back) and drilled new holes. cut the front mounting piece to fit, cut the inner lip off of the inside of the fender so it'd mount flush, and away I went. Non XJ afficianados can't even tell i've hacked the front. Haven't touched the rear yet..

Any one have pics of this in the rear of the front fender? This is where my 31s are getting into mine. Is it possible to just cut a 45 degree angle out? thanks

I'd also love to know how to clean up the front inner rear part of the fender so I don't rub on full turn. I'm eating away at my splash guard :/
