Default Factory spare tire carrier

I met a guy with a mail jeep that had a factory spare tire carrier on it. I asked him if I could buy it and to my surprise he said yes because he found out it was in his way quite often. I offered $100 and he said yes. My question is will this thing bolt on to my bumper without much trouble? What all is involved in doing this, and are all parts easily removed? His bumper is stee

l, mine is also, but has the plastic Corners that go up to my factory fender flares, will this be a hack job and a total pain in the butt?

You will most likely need to trade bumpers and all with him to get it right. Look close before you jump.

It's a jeep, build it ! That's a good price ! Check the bronze bushing ! They have to be custom made by a machine shop if you don't have a lathe.

What year is your XJ? Yeah I would get as many of the parts as you think you will need. Might not be a bad idea to get the bumper too if yours is '97 and up. No idea if you can bolt a '96 down bumper to a '97 and up. I picked up that exact tire carrier for $100 myself. Might try to get it on my '00 one of these days. It is not a straight bolt on for me but can be done. Other people have. If you do buy it could you post some shots. I have the carrier itself and the piece that the carrier clips into on the hatch. There are support pieces, I believe, behind the bumper and inside the hatch. Would love to see shots of all the pieces I am missing. Thinking they are just support pieces so some flat stock steel will work.

I'm going to meet JHC799 in the morning to pick one up. I'll find out from him. Either way, any easy mod. HE ALSO HAS ANOTHER ONE IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED!!! 😎

There is a parts diagram in this thread..https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/fac...arrier-189092/ ..Ideally you want that support bracket too.

This should be everything you need. The plate on the upper right has another plate behind it that goes inside of the rear lift gate.

I did not get the two support plates on the left or the one behind the plate that goes on the hatch. As far as the hatch goes to put it on an '00 I would have modify the plate on the outside anyway. Was not overly concerned that I did not get them, thinking support plates could be made that would work, but wish I did.
