I met a guy with a mail jeep that had a factory spare tire carrier on it. I asked him if I could buy it and to my surprise he said yes because he found out it was in his way quite often. What year is your XJ? Yeah I would get as many of the parts as you think you will need. Might not be a bad idea to get the bumper too if yours is '97 and up. No idea if you can bolt a '96 down bumper to a '97 and up. I picked up that exact tire carrier for $100 myself. Might try to get it on my '00 one of these days. It is not a straight bolt on for me but can be done. Other people have. If you do buy it could you post some shots. I have the carrier itself and the piece that the carrier clips into on the hatch. There are support pieces, I believe, behind the bumper and inside the hatch. Would love to see shots of all the pieces I am missing. Thinking they are just support pieces so some flat stock steel will work.

This should be everything you need. The plate on the upper right has another plate behind it that goes inside of the rear lift gate.
I did not get the two support plates on the left or the one behind the plate that goes on the hatch. As far as the hatch goes to put it on an '00 I would have modify the plate on the outside anyway. Was not overly concerned that I did not get them, thinking support plates could be made that would work, but wish I did.
