Extended Front Bump Stops w/ Stock Suspension
 

What would be the effect of using extended (5 inch) bump stops on stock front suspension? Would this effectively stiffen the front suspension? Would it increase the risk of a rollover or reduce it?

why would you need to extend them on stock height? Chopped fenders, bigger tires? If anything, it would reduce the risk, but that job is more handled by your swaybar. You'd be best off using the hockey puck trick. I'm at stock height with cut fenders and 31's, and one hockey puck will be enough to prevent my tires from snacking on my fenders. No mods to the stock bumpstop.

C'mon, Mike... I know what they are. One of my old ones fell out and I crudely fabricated substitutes while waiting on actual ones in the mail.

Maybe I worded the question poorly. I'm asking if anyone has experience doing this, or if anyone has expertise on what the affect might be of the front coilover suspension rate going from X to much higher when the new extended bits of rubber make contact and bring the shocks into the mix.

you dont have coilovers, and i really dont think you have the slightest idea of what youre talking about. a 5" ext stop of front would give you like 1" uptravel on stock height, and yea, i'd call that dangerous on road.

Pretty sure your teeth would fall out over a pothole with the setup you are thinking about. You still need suspension travel and you would greatly diminish that with extended bumpstops on stock suspension.

To answer the question: No, bump-stops will not "stiffen the suspension", they will limit it so the suspension can't do it's job. If you want to be able to take city corners at 100mph, get an E30/E36, not a Jeep. Your bumpstop idea could definitely increase the chance of rollover: If you are cornering, and have no suspension left on that corner, the only other place to absorb that force is through the tires; which is easily overcome by your lateral force, and you will either skid out or roll over.

All in all, terrible idea. Get stiffer springs and more firmly valved shocks if you want it to handle better, but be prepared for the consequences on your butt.
