Not an engineer or anything, but the further spread apart, the less stress on the mounts, and the load on the bottom will be pushing outwards while the top mount will want to pull inwards. Having the bottom mount on a much more rigid surface will make a world of difference.

Recommend both solutions from Detours Offroad. The Slimline is an extremely well built full bumper and the Backbone a more discrete built in solution. Both allow angle and distance from liftgate adjustment.

Thats actually exactly what I'm going for!!! The only bad thing is that my corner guards are about 2''-3'' shorter than yours which would bring my upper and lower hinges closer together.
Have you had any issues with the corner guard bolts coming loose, or cracking of the unibody around the rear quarter area?

btw, yes I realise my last post on here was over a year ago, no my tire carrier still hasn't been made yet, and before I get laughed at… I woke up a dead thread

I added the upper piece (1/4" plate) to a set of JCR rear quarters so I would be out of the way of the gas door. In doing so I was able to add 5-6 more bolts for attachment. I also replaced all of the HW with SS and nylock nuts. When I installed the quarters (for the last time) I used RTV on every bolt hole, along the top and both sides of the unit. Nothing has come loose or cracked in 5000 miles; including Jeep Beach, Jeepfest and Jeeptoberfest obstacle courses.

The downside: It's functional and looks great but I don't use it much. It is wider than the jeep, so to open it requires a lot of clearance to swing out. This also puts a huge cantilevered load on the passenger quarter (tire and wheel = 115lbs). I thought of this, so I added additional plating/larger washers on that side...but it's still cumbersome to use. Don't get me wrong, I still love it.

Hope this helps!
