Ok i have a 92 wit a bad motor and a 96 wit a good one i have done swaps but they were plug and play same years now ive read some stuff about accessorys being mounted differently and tranny bell housings bolt patterns being different I know 92 is odb1 and 96 is odb2 so does anyone have any experience wit this kind of swap thanx

there is one difference that matters to you.

assuming we are talking about an xj with a 4.0...

the 92 has a coolant temp sensor in the back of the head, the 96 does not. you will need to drill and tap a hole for it either in the back of the head, or if you arent comfortable with that, Ive also done it in the flat round spot on the face of the thermostat housing with success.

Yes i did read something on that to was there a noticeable difference in the temp from the back of the head to the front of the head ii mean its doesn't play any tricks on the gauge does it

I just looked at the 96 and the sensor is there already
