Year: I've had a few...
Model: Cherokee
Engine: A secret
it will take a while till it goes... usually.
Depends on how bad the knock is and where its at.
take a pipe/bar and try and find where the noise is coming from. If it is a lifter, it might be worth taking a look at.
Replacing a valve consists of milling a small part of the head so the next valve doesn't stick... and you get a slightly bigger valve.
if you have a mill, its just the price of the valve... but at a machine shop, it will probably be $50-100 for the milling (unless you have a friend) and $20? for a valve.
Thats going the cheap route and not doing the whole head.
A weekend, a tree and a $400 engine (150k ish) isn't a bad route when you look at it on paper in the long run.
