Exclamation Durango Alternator Swap Question - Swapping connectors (int vs ext regulator)??

Hi guys,
So I got a 136 amp alternator out of a 99 Durango at the junkyard. Originally planned to just get another 90 amp unit but all the XJs were picked clean. Before you yell at me, I read up on this for 3 hours but couldn't be 100% sure and I dont want to fry my XJ.

Anyway, I got home and swapped my connectors over but I just want to make sure that the extra black box on my 98 XJ isn't going to cause any harm. The original connector on the Durango alternator was the plug style (not ring terminals + studs like the swapped piece).

All the threads I read were people swapping from the OLD connector to the NEW one, meaning the computer regulates the voltage anyway, so there is no need for whatever the black box is in my jeep. But I cant figure out if doing the reverse will cause the internal regulator of the Durango alt to clash with said black box.

After searching at the junkyard, I settled on this alternator (lots of threads say this should work);

And I also have another issue that hasnt come up when searching, that the diode on the swapped connector piece is very close (1-2mm) from the alternator casing. Should I grind the casing a little to clearance it? Here is what I am talking about;

99% sure all of this will be fine but I just want to make sure

I am f'ing confused...

This post says ALL the chrysler alternators are externally regulated, but I thought I read something about the black box being some sort of regulatory module.

Jeep ran Denso alternators from '91 and up. All Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep Denso alternators are externally regulated, so the 2002 Durango alt will work in your jeep, from a strictly electrical perspective.

EDIT:
Just answered my question. Thanks 5-90, once again!
It's not a box, it's just a moulded rubber block. There are no electronics in there, the wires pass straight through it. Period.

So (if anyone but me was confused), the black box is literally nothing, and the alt IS externally regulated so the connectors dont matter as long as they match the connector in your year XJ.

Off to go get this bad boy rebuilt. Hopefully will throw around 150+ amps after the rewind -- too bad I couldn't find one of those 160 amp ones from the later durangos.
