Default Driving with no rear driveshaft, is it ok?

I did my SYE install today and the XJ front driveshaft I got is too small. Would I be ok driving in 4wd with the rear shaft out for a few days til I pick one up that fits?

With a SYE since the rear of the T case is now sealed; so it is fine and wont cause any damage. Beware that it may handle a little strangely so drive cautiously.

so if you have just the front ds in order to drive you'll just put it in 4x4?

Just curious to see what exactly didn't fit between the JY frt DS and the SYE Kit you went with.

I'm in the middle of gathering parts to lift my rig and I went with an Advanced Adapters kit and pulled a frt DS from a 92. I haven't received the SYE kit yet to make sure the parts will fit together, but if I can get some input as to why your set-up didn't work then I can take that into account...Thanks!

There are a bunch of different length front shafts in various year/model Jeeps. The one I have is one of the smaller ones. It's 28.5" inches from u joit to u joint and I need more like 30.5" for my lift.

Hmmm...ok I wasn't aware of that. Do you mind me asking what height you went with on your lift and maybe the year XJ you pulled the DS from?

The engine tranny combo is what effects driveshaft length. Not year. For a 4.0 aw4 xj you want a front shaft from an xj with that same combo, 4 banger and manual transmission 4.0 setup a are what start getting into zj driveshafts.

Maybe try cehcking the length of your current front DS on your rig to see if that will work as a rear. If it is, I think you'd be better off doing that and hell, check to see if you can make the JY DS work as a FRT DS.....
