Driving on just front wheel drive??
I am going to be getting my '92 Jeep to a shop across town so they can install my rugged ridge sye cuz i dont feel too confident doing that stuff yet. I would rather not pay for another tow to bring it back home. So i am in need of some advice! If there is no rear driveshaft on my Cherokee, would shifting into 4H allow me to drive like a front wheel drive vehicle???? Id be on 25-35mph roads

You should be fine, especially if it's open diff. The main problem with running in 4H when both drive shafts are installed is the front and rear can't differentiate properly, which causes binding within the transfer case. This applies mainly to those with a NP231 and only to NP242's when in Full-Time 4x4. But yes, you should be fine but no high speeds.

why? if you have vibes you can live with them for a few miles. without a rear shaft you will lose tcase fluid unless you block it off with a gatorade bottle and some duct tape or whatever.

you will be just fine. i had to drive mine home a bunch of times in front wheel drive since i blew up the rear driveshaft. one time was on the highway. i ended up driving it in front wheel drive at speeds 50+ mph without issues for 50 miles.

Installing an sye will seal the transfer case right?? I dont have a replacement driveshaft for the rear yet. So I thought taking it home from the shop w/out another tow would be best till I can get a zj shaft from the jy for my lift

Im surprised nobody's stated the obvious. If you're installing an sye, just take your front shaft and put it in the back until you get home and can find a new one. Problem solved.

This is exactly what I was about to suggest when I read this thread. Just take the front shaft and put it in the rear. Most guys just run a front shaft from the JY for a rear shaft after a SYE.

If the axle yoke thing isnt pointing at the transfer case wont I get horrible vibes using a driveshaft on the rear?
