Default driveshaft question

I have a 2000 Cherokee with a 6" lift and stock shafts. I do have a 2" transfer case drop but want to lessen my angles. What can be done?

Slip yoke eliminator and double cardan shafts. Shims at the rear axle.

**** that's a lot of money? Any cheaper way? Lol I've heard not to get an sye from some people because the slip yoke is what helps when your flexing

This exactly.

You have a 2" tc drop? I've never seen a 2 incher, I can't imagine that's good for stuff.

I'll have to see tomorrow but that's what I was told. Why the shims?

Also my front shaft is already double cardan and for the rear does it need to be a certain length?

Yeah, hate to burst your bubble buddy, but theres a lot involved with a 6" lift. Yes, the front is already a double cardan. If you look at it, you'll see that the shaft actually telescopes. This is the slip yoke action your jeep needs when articulating the suspension. Unfortunately for the rear, the slip yoke setup works poorly because of its geometric proportions in high lift applications. This is what neccesitates the need for a sye, a double cardan shaft, and the shims. In order to run the shaft, you need an sye. In order for the shaft to work properly, the rear axle pinion needs to point just below the shaft. Hence the need for the shims.

The front shafts come like that from factory. Unfortunately, the rear ones don't.

This diagram shows why you need shims. Note how the pinion creates very little angle at the ujoint. You will need to measure the angle to figure out what shims you need. It's okay if there is a 1-2 degree difference at the pinion because if it was perfectly 0 then the ujoint would never move and never be lubricated.

For the driveshaft itself, you MIGHT be able to get away with using a front shaft in the rear. I would not recommend wheeling like that, but you could drive it. Ideally you should get an aftermarket shaft that's custom length.

Here is the SYE kit that I have in mine:

Lets see you said cheap...........drop it back down to stock or a 2-3" lift "MAX" then it will be cheaper.

Any 6" lift is expensive to do and all the costs haven't even been listed above, if you don't know all of them needed your in for big trouble. Do a search here to see all the items you will need to do it properly, Oh yeah bring money at least a few grand.
