I have just recently noticed vibrations during acceleration on the streets with my '97 with 4.5 lift. Never really had them before. Last night while under her with the rear end jacked off the floor i checked the universals on the drive shaft and they seemed fine but I noticed that there was play in the output of the transfer case, the shaft moved up, down, left and right pretty freely, at least 1/8".
I was wondering if its just something simple like a bearing or maybe would a SYE and new drive shaft fix the problem or am I going to have to rebuild or swap out the t-case.

Well as long as your t-case isnt leaking, than I wouldnt think its a bearing our worn out or something along those lines. I would lean toward needing a SYE or t-case drop especially with your 4.5" lift. Just my 2 cents. Good Luck!!

All the components are dry (no leaks). I also have a 1.0" drop spacer on the transfer case.

Well if you notice no play in your universals then I would lean toward the SYE completly. You might be able to get away with just a hack-n-tap if you dont wanna do the complete SYE. Good Luck!!

Is it mostly from a dead stop then while you're accellerating to 20 mph or so? Mine did that at about a 4" lift. SYE fixed it.

ummm... why do people act like hack n tap is a half **** way to to it...

hack n tap is just you doing the work yourself instead of paying for a product that just bolts right up

if done right it is JUST as good

Got the same thing from 29 to 33mph on 6.5 except mine is a front vibration so I'm guessing its the pinon angle. Sye is going on Sunday so I guess we will see what that does.

I don't know if I would say just as good. Damn close and if doing one is half assed what is doing a transfer case drop? With a true SYE kit the shaft is supported in the new housing, as where a hack and tap just has a seal housing that bolts on.

I have yet to see someone or hear first hand of someone breaking a hack and tap. And a transfer case drop is like putting a band aid on a broken leg, it might feel like its helping but it never will.

If the vibration in in the front a transfer case drop is only going to make the angle on the front drive shaft worse.

I don't know how the hell I misread your post. I guess I just had TC drop in my head.

Well I was planing on a SYE in the future some time but it looks to be sooner than later now. What suggestion do some of you have for a SYE, should I go for a SYE kit with a drive shaft or get a SYE install it and measure for a custom shaft. What brand would be a good one. My rig is going to be a daily driver/weekend wheeler so I don't want to skimp out and have to be fixing things every time I go wheeling but at the same time its going to spend 85% of its time on the road.
