get a SYE kit while your working on it then go to The Axle Exchange and order a nice new shaft

ok so if i install an SYE i could run a stock shaft right, or do i still need to get a custom one?

No you would need a shaft from the front of a Cherokee with the CV joint...Tj

Right, you could run a front stock shaft from an auto trans (they are longer than the manuals). I do this in my rig. I rebuilt the CV joint and replaced all driveshaft ujoints before I put that front shaft out back though.

Would this work if you have a manual?

ok so i can run a front drive shaft with an SYE, i was thinking of buying a new tom woods drive shaft for the rear but they are pretty expensive i think.

^ of course it will. I think IRO mentions what the differences are in their hack-n-tap

Sweet I just wasn't sure if the lengths of the auto and manual were significantly different. I can get one for free from a guy at work if I ever end up doin an sye

If I'm understanding you correctly, you are asking if you have a manual XJ, can you use the auto front shaft in the rear? Yeah, fo sho. Rear length is the same I believe. It's just the manual front shafts are shorter, so depending on your amount of lift, might be too short when subbed in in the rear.
