Drift steering issue at 335 mph +
Hello brothers, so my loose, drifting, wandering, whatever you want to call it, steering issues continue on my 2001 XJ. It currently has a 8 inch iron rock critical path three link lift on 35 inch tires. I have upgraded the track bar to a core 4x4 tier four with two Johnny joints, re centered my axles, alignment is good, installed a dual steering stabilizer, and I still get moderate wandering when driving down the road past 45-50 mph, it starts at 35 but it’s managable, and gets worse. I have. Knobby off-road tires, but there is a ton of play in the steering and it kind of feels like steering a sailboat in terms of being able to move the wheel an inch or two in each direction while driving down the road when going in a straight line and it won’t respond, I’ve heard possibly the steering box is a culprit along with some bushings here and there. anyone else had an issue similar to this? thanks! |
Do you have aftermarket steering?

Honestly it's hard to guess at it without seeing the vehicle. I know with my steering/suspension set up I've had at/above highway speeds with 35" tires and no handling issues. I also have zero steering stabilizers. Please put some pictures of your steering/front suspension set up. Do you have a steering box brace? Have you had it professionally aligned?
Attachment 404200Attachment 404199 here's my set up for reference. I'm not saying it's perfect or the best, but it works well and I don't have any handling issues. |

Thanks, wasn't paying attention. I guess the next question is if his steering box needs adjusting and if his castor angle is correct

I reccomend slowing down 335 mph is fast! |
My Jeep won't go that fast. Gonna have to work on that :D

You should see the stuff that happens when mine hits 88...

The steering angles are really steep, the steering stabilizers appear to be mounted incorrectly, but are not necessary, and there are a few questions which I asked and you didn't answer. Have you had someone turn the steering wheel back and forth while you feel at joints to see if there is slip in any of them?

I’m not sure what you mean by steering angles. I have not had an opportunity to do the steering wheel thing yet either I’m afraid. |
Take it to a professional and have it aligned if you're too scared to adjust it. Ask them to tell you if there was anything noticeably worn while they were working on it

What is rubbing on the pass tire ?
