Default Drain Hole Plug

This is hardly a major mod but it may be of interest to some. I noticed that one of the drain plugs in the rear body corners (fish bowl area) was missing. This area collects water due to poorly sealed rear side windows, which is common. I had some water (ice actually) but it wasn't too bad. I was more concerned about winter slush being thrown in through the drain holes as a I drove.

I picked up the plugs pictured below form the plumbing section of a hardware store. They are 1" Inch in dia. and fit in the stock hole perfectly. The original plug is also shown for comparison. Tightening the wing nut secures them firmly. Before I put them in I shot the area, inside and out, with a Krown T40 rustproofing spray. This is a product I use on the whole vehicle.

The first pic shows the area I'm talking about. I'd like to keep it looking this way!

Those look like they might be boat hull drain plugs.

There is a similar type that has a flip type leaver to tighten the rubber bung. I think those might be the ones for boats and I'm sure they would work fine too. They might even be actual brass (vs. plated) which would be good.

I have seen the T handle like these in brass also for boats, I think this is the type my little boat has.

I wouldn't go overboard with the "rust proofing". As soon as you get real attached to it it'll get T-boned/rear ended and poof it's gone.

I'll take my chances. I’ve been accident free since I started driving in 1968 and I haven’t had much in the way of rust either.
