doing a 8.8 swap
ive decided that im going to do a ford 8.8 axle swap on my 2001.
i do have a couple questions that i would like to get cleared up from you more experienced axle swapping members.
what year ford explorer will i be looking for in the jy?
do i need to pay close attention to gear ratio in the axle im going to be getting? does it need to match what i currently have (3.55) or is it ok for it to be different?
what will happen to my rear brake setup going from the drums to disks? will it just hook right up and nothing need to be done as far as the booster or anything?
what fab work will need to be done to the jy axle to mount up to my xj?
you can tell im new to the world of swapping axles so please help me out
thanks

Any year really but i believe 96 and up have disc not sure though. You will have to cut all the old hardware off and weld on new perches and shock mounts. Also will have to buy a 1310 yoke adapter. Check my sig i and doin a swap right now. Bout to finish tonight.

Also match your ratios you cannot have two differant. 3.55 is hard to find in a 8.8 mor common is 3.73 and 4.10s but there are a few 3.55s out there. i would get one with 4.10s and limited slip and put 4.10s in your from axle to match.

You could do a narrowed 9 inch but parts are mor expensive the 8.8 is so close and stronger than a D44 so why not for the price and its onlit about a half inch more narrow than the chrys 8.25

I did the 8.8 swap. Cut the old hardware off of both axles. Weld the D35 hardware on the 8.8. The brakes will be fine use your old stuff as long as the lines are not rotten or pinched. I didnt hook up my e-brake. I think you have to get an adaptor for that. Also get the yoke adaptor like sttated above.
