Does anyone at all know what this is?
I just bought this 1990 jeep cherokee 4.0L L6 4wd automatic and its not the emergency brake that is in the middle still and its just a weird *** that i can either push or pull or twist

Only if you have a locker. With an open diff and one of those it just means that ether side can have power and disengaged only one side. Just wanted to be clear not a locker.

its either a posi-lok or one of their competitors, it replaces the faulty mechanism that shifts your fork on your differential, some of the disconnects fail, so they replaced it with a posi-lok, all it really does is make sure that your front end is getting power when you are in 4wd, nothing super special

they did this on extreme 4x4,they had a open diff front axle that had the vacuum line and it just locked the vacuum thingy and made it into a posi,it made it so you can do it manually instead of the jeep do it at certain rmps for ya(which was problematic)
