DIY Bar Pin Elminiator - Need Some Input

So I am looking at getting some bar pin eliminators, and they seem to be pretty expensive for what you actually get.

It is common to use the rear sway bar mount as a BPE for the front shocks.
Right now I am using fox 2.0 shocks, and they don't like to twist the 90* it takes to run the rear sway bar mounts.

I have been tossing around the idea of using 4 8mm male heim joints up front (screwed into the bar pin mount) with jam juts, then a sleeved bolt to hold the shock eye.

These could be put together for a fraction of the cost of the JKS bar pin elminiators.

Anyone have any thoughts, or possible pros / cons to the idea?

You want to put those heim joints in the place of the bar pin hold down bolts. Then use a sleeved bolt to go through one heim through the shock mount then through the other heim.

Correct? just trying to make sure i understand correctly

Yes, that is what I'm thinking so far. I was going to photoshop a diagram, but it was taking a bit too long.

This is just a representation. Not exactly what you would call accurate.

I’m all about the DIY route, but after sourcing all the parts, not including time, I doubt you’ll spend less than the $30 shipped these will cost. I welded mine in, so I don’t even need to concern myself with stripped threads or siezed and broken bolts.

IRO is the only company that I can think of that doesn't rotate the front shock eye. I've had RC rear BPE for over 3 years no no issue. I'm using TNT coil brackets on my 30 and they use a big stud like the rear axle for the shocks. I'm sure you can easily make your own with some flat stock and angle iron.

Rough Country, Zone and Rocky Road all sell BPE's that don't rotate the front eye mount.

Yep, have em on both my XJs.

Agree 100%, but for $30 still very well worth the trouble/time saved, IMO.

Zone and RC both rotate from what i've seen when I bought the rears. Can't use the rears up front the widths are different. Post them up if they've changed them. Make sure you're talking about the fronts and not the rears

Tbone289 02-12-2018 02:07 PM

You're right, they're rear. The RR are for front or rear, so I just assumed the Zone and RC ones were as well. The Zone mounts are slotted like the RRs, so not sure why they wouldn't work...

I have the Rocky Roads BPE's, and they're made well but I like the lower profile of the IRO.

RC rotates the front shocks 90*. Installation guide pics are for a TJ. But on an XJ the BPE has to be rotated 90* to be installed. Don't know about the other ones though.

Agreed. I was looking at the rear ones by mistake when I mentioned RC and Zone. Rocky Road are another option, and they are the same part front or rear: http://www.rocky-road.com/barpin.html

I'm not sure why Zone would have slotted the mount holes for the rears if they weren't intended for F&R also, but they have separate parts for front and rear.

Didn't see your post #11 until after I posted or I wouldn't have. Knew you'd figure it out.

I used Rocky Road in the rear, and IRO in the front.

Happy with both, neither rotate the shock mount orientation.

If you need shock bushings, I have a part # in this thread for bushings without bar pins

Thanks for the tip! I'm going to go with the IRO in front and those bushings as well.
