Distributor swap for RENIX 4.0
Hi guys, I'm new to this forum, I have a 1987 XJ with the 4.0 RENIX injected engine. I am flush with Jeeps, the 87, a 94 4.0HO XJ, and a 90 2.5 YJ, so I can turn the 87 into a race car without loosing my wheeling ability.
I will be setting the 87 up for the ChumpCar series, (500 dollar "crapcans" with cages and safety gear but anything else goes). All the 50 something races are either double seven, 12, or 24 hour endurance races.
I have heard of the frustration that a fair number of teams have had with electrical/sensor problems on computerized engines, costing them HOURS, while people are still racing.
The RENIX system would be the WORST of them, as it will not store failure codes.
As a result, I tore off the throttle body, and machined up a spacer/adapter to mount a 500 CFM two barrel carb that I happen to have, and want to swap a points type, dizzy into the 4.0 block. Is there ANYTHING that will bolt in and mate with the drive gear on the cam?
THANKS for any help, Sabrina "Brie" Hill (And YES I can wrench with the best of them).

THANKS GUY!! I looked at photos of the two distributors that were in different catalogs for OEM and speed parts company's, and I could not tell anything. NOW is seems that I was looking at the catalogs for the WRONG company's!!!
NOW I will order the distributor, it may not be points type, but I replaced the engine management computer controlled dizzy on my 2.5 powered 1990 YJ with a Motorcraft HEI, and it has run flawlessly since I pulled the switch in 1997.
I also pulled the TBI and manifold at the same time, replacing them with the intake from a CJ, and an "F" head carb. The jeep has a little less power, but it has NEVER left me stranded when hot starting, like the stock electronic system did many times. Brie
