I was driving today when my jeep started making this odd noise coming from under the hood. It comes and goes periodically by the seconds.

Here is a link, you can slightly here the "grinding" noise if you listen closely.

Please help

There wasnt anything "slightly" about that noise! That sounds horrible!! I think Im hearing what your talking about. It almost sound like your fly wheel has come apart and is smacking the bellhousing of your tranny or something in the exhaust is smacking the motor or frame or your clutch fan smacking your fan shroud. I assume it increases with RPM's?? Good Luck!!

Check fan if that's not hitting might be torque converter bolts. Try to isolate where its coming from

Thanks for the replies, but the fan is the first thing I considered and it's free of interference. I narrowed it down to the alternator. When looking at it from underneath I could see the bearings binding up. Does this justify the sound to you guys?
