Why did you have to get the tone rigs off the grand cherokee? Do the xj tone rings don't work?

I imagine there are some differences between the tone ring, and this sensor, between discs and drums. But I've never seen a drum brake ABS setup in person.

going also to convert from drum to disc and having ABS.
what exactly is the problem with the ABS Rings and the sensors ?
Why can they not being used from the XJ ? The teeth count of the ZJ is the same, right ?
Parts are complete beside the ABS stuff. Thought, the XJ parts can e reused !!!

Hell by far the easiest and cheapest way is to just order all the parts from "Big David" our member here. Then you don't have to chase down and remove all the old parts yourself.

^^^ Probably right. I've been to a few local bone yards and they aren't interested in selling the brake parts. They want to sell you the complete rear axle.

There was a member on here that ordered a custom set up. He wanted to retain the ABS on his XJ. I sent him a kit plus the ABS sensors from the ZJ. He bought the ZJ tone rings new since I had no way of removing them from the donor in the yard. I think he said that it was all interchangeable but not sure if the Dana 35 & 8.25 shafts are the same diameter where the rings go. He may have had to machine down the shaft, not sure. But I do know that he had it operating correctly.

EDIT : He retained his Dana 35.

Guess, shipping to Germany is quite exepensive.
Decided now to buy also some used axle shafts for Dana 35 out of a ZJ including the tone rings and the ABS sensor cables.
Finally I can decide than what does fit and have a set of spare axle shaft in case of ....

Can anyone tell me if this can be done on a 96 xj SE without ABS? I have drums in the rear but don't think I have abs, and don't want to buy the wrong parts if I can't do the conversion. Thanks, and sorry if this is the wrong place.

Yes, most disc brake conversions are done on XJs without ABS. Mainly because if you have ABS you also have a Dana 35 rear axle, which isn't worth spending the money on to do the conversion.

So just to be clear, I need the rear brakes from a grand Cherokee and it needs to have abs for the rear to do the conversion properly for my non abs rear? Sorry, I'm new to this. I pulled the rear diff off and I have the 8.25" Chrysler. Looks to be good shape. Is there a certain rear I'll need to look for in the GC?

The 94-98 Grand Cherokee ones will work but you have to grind out the center of the backing plates a little bit so they will slide over the axle tube. I used Jeep Liberty brakes and backing plates on mine and they where a direct bolt on.
