Diesel Oil
Morning ya'll. I'm going to flush/drain the break in oil today and was curious as to what oil/viscosity you guys use in a modified HO(4.6L Stroker). I know for my Landy(Stroked Disco1) I would run Rotella 15/40 and she loved it. She ran a lot quieter and gave her great lubrication. Anyone else run diesel oil in there HO Stroker, your thoughts please? Doesn't get colder than 50*F here in SD so viscosity thickness isn't a concern for me. Also, I want to run a bigger oil filter, can someone save me the time and guide me as to which bigger filter will fit? Thanks in advance.

I know the part number for a stock engines larger filter is the b2 for Baldwin filters. You should be able to cross reference that. I run delo 400 xle synthetic blend in mine but its entirely stock. Don't know if the stroker is that much different in regards to oil.

I don't see any problem with it. I run Rotella T6 in both my 03 Corvette (383 stroker) and my Cherokee which I just bought. Never had any issues with it in the Vette.

I have ran and tested a few oils on other platforms and Rotella T6 5W-40 is good (great for the price) as well as Mobil1 Diesel Truck Oil in a 5W-40. I would say a 40 would be all you need. You could also try Mobil 0W-40, that is what I run in my Turbo Renesis rotary engine (8500RPM redline) and I have tested it several times and it really holds up to fuel dilution (an issue in rotaries) and shear. Diesel oils tend to have more anti wear additives than normal oils so that is a plus.
I am not sure of there is a used oil analysis thread here or not but I highly recommend testing your oil, it is only $25.00 and it has saved me a couple of times over the years by identifying issues before total failure occurred. As a test, I have even sent in samples on known failed/failing engines without telling them and they have identified issues so it is a valuable service IMO. You can guess how your oil is doing or you can test it
They will send you sample kits for free, just call. I actually have a sample out on an engine I feel may be on it's last legs in terms of compression so I will share that report when I get it so you can see an example.

Awesome. I'll see if my local Oreilly's can cross reference it. I prefer them and have a company account with them.
I may also be adding a engine oil cooler to the system. ? ? ? Not sure yet.

Great read that doesn't tell the whole story, but it's a great start for beginners to learn without drowning in all the myths and out-dated info and misinfo out there. Debunks a few myths that many people cling to more than they do to their own religions.
