finally got some time to mount these monsters up. I did them at home buy hand and used balance beads for the first time in my own rig.
I heard from some friends of mine that the valve cores will leak, so I picked up these special ones with little filters on the ends.
they come with this totally useless bottle to dump them in through the valve stem. total waste of time, i ended up just pooring the bags in through the bead.
the beads them selves where much smaller than I thought. I used there 5oz bags as you are supposed to use an ounce for every 10-15lbs of tire weight.
first report, they are not quiet but they are much more quiet than the Baja Claws. Also no wash boarding at low speeds which is a huge plus. Highway manners are much better between the tread pattern and having a balanced matched set and I had a slight pull to the let that has gone away. So far so good. I think I'm running a little too much pressure at 26psi, I think I will drop down to 22ish.
Any update on the tires? Looking at picking them up in a 33x12.5-15. I'm running Firestone destination mts in a 31x10.5 at the moment. I dont think I've heard a louder tire than these Firestones. So noise doesn't bother me too much, but I'm stuck between these and the DC fun country.
Nothing big to report. So far so good. Had them in some soft sand yesterday and didn't even put it in 4wd. Road manners are good they will be quieter then the firestone MT's I've been in rigs that had them, only tires that I've heard louder say TSL on the side.. Fun countries are on the agressive side of of a AT the extremes are a proper mud tire.
Thanks for posting this thread, one question what do you think of the balance beads? I had installed some in another truck about 10 yrs. ago and was not pleased with the outcome.
One thing I did find then when I dismounted the tire for a repair was when I had plugged it at the farm during hay season, was the beads had stuck to the cement on the plug inside the tire. I had never even thought of that before but that was 10 yrs. ago and an old plug kit.
I also used them about 10 years ago with less that par results. So far so good currently on these in the jeep . I have a friend that runs them as well and is very pleased with them but he was the one that suggested the filtered valve cores as he had issues with leaking after airing down.
all good in the hood. street manners are mcuh better than the claws probably 500 ish miles on them with no signs of wear. Going wheeling this weekend wish me luck.
drove up to New Hampshire for a day of wheeling yesterday. Lots of mud rocks and stumps. I pinched these tires hard a few times with not even a mark. The tread remained clear, they made it through all of the mud pits without spinning, and I made it up a few rock obstacles that the wranglers couldn't do locked on 35's. So far very pleased a great tire overall and for the small discomfort on the street they more than make up for it offroad.
tires are about a year old with close to 10k on them. still little to no wear, a little noisier than new I do rotate them just about every oil change. They do like lower pressure on the road 20-22 psi is a good contact patch and ride and get real squishy at 12psi. Just wish I got 35s.

I do have to ask, the top picture above, it looks like there are black spots in the center tread of the driver front. Is that chunking? Or... I guess those line up with the lug sipes. Did the sipes open up that much? What am I seeing there?

Nope just wet. No chunking ever. Some bruising on the leading edges from spinning them on rocks but thats to be expected. No side wall bruising and I've pinched them good a couple of times.
