Already has a tb space. I know I can delete the a/c pump. But I've also heard of changing it into an air compressor but I'm not sure how. There are 20 different fuses and wires all around the fuse box. If it something I can gut out and simplify the electrical workI. jut want to get rid off any unnecessary electrical so that I don't have to worry about anything tearing up on the trial. If I don't need it and I pull it the. I can't tear it up. Btw the jeep is a 2001, it has a 4.5in lift with 35's. Air aid intake. Compushift box. Has a Dana 44 rear in it, yolk slip illuminator. 4 wheel disk breaks. Runs great. I know the tires are a little much and I'll probably need to go down to 33's or even 31's

I just want as little electrical junk on it as possible. Going to re wire the lights. Get rid of the power locks and windows. There will be no a/c. Still debating on heat. Gutting the factory radio and speakers. It will be a tube body. The only thing remaining will be the front clip and the rear fenders. The rest will be tube. If I can bypass any other electrical things I'd like to but I don't want to mess up any functions of the engine.

Then you shouldn't have bought an OBD-II MPFI vehicle... Especially if you're just going to tube the thing. With the extra weight maybe a Chevy 350 is a better choice.
You can delete the power windows and A/C stuff but you can't get rid of the remnants. The fuse panels, relays, wiring harness, and computer that runs everything aren't going anywhere.

Ok OP, lets cover the basics. Your 4.0L 242cid is a destroked 4.2L 258cid that has been used for well over 40 years. Now the simplest thing to do is find a donor Cj5 or Cj7 with the 4.2L. You can then take the cylinder head, intake manifold and exhaust manifold and bolt to your 4.0L for a simple carburetor conversion. Now you may either use the wiring and ignition control module from the Cj or buy both brand new for about 600 bucks. Now your engine is taken care of.
On to the transmission. The 4.2L came with either a Chevy TH400 of Chrysler TF904 (rare on later years) both are non-computerized 3 speed autos. Either these can be used or you can buy an adapter plate to use SB Chevy trans like the TH350 (3 speed) or TH700R4 (4 speed OD). These are the simple trans solutions/swaps.
On to fuel. You can buy an 85-86 Xj fuel sending unit for carburetor motors and use either an inline rail mounted pump for the 4.0 or if you go with the 4.2, use the block mounted pump.
These things will allow you to use the simple Motorcraft ignition system and pretty much eliminate all your computers
Now as for gauges, that will be an all custom job as there are soo many choices out there. You WILL still need a fuse panel but the Cj style is very simple.

Just cut all the pink striped wires.
