Decisions Desicions... going 3" or 4.5" from RC.. those with lifts please input
*whoops... meant those with the RC 3" and 4.5.. i know most of you on here are lifted someway.... lol
Ok... so im ready to get my jeep lifted now that I got some money together.
Ive been tossing back and forth 3" or 4.5 kit from RC
The 3" would be the series 2 with full leafs as mine are sagging pretty good, which would put me at 609 for the lift. And after the kit id want to buy an adjustable track bar, TC drop, and itd be nice to have longer brake lines, and quick disconnects over a drop bracket... there just seems to be too much extra to buy probably putting me cost wise over what the next kit is Im going to list.
which is the 4.5 X series kit.
which is about as complete of a kit as you can get from what I am seeing.
It has full leafs, stainless brake lines, quick disconnects, 9000 series shocks, TC drop, track bar, and the upper and lower adjustable control arms. Plus I have been put in contact with someone that can probably give me a much better price than what RC can give me direct from them.
My plans for the jeep is going to be a daily driver and going out to jeepskool or other offroading.
I just dont know whats going to be the better option for me.. i mean hands down I am thinking the 4.5 kit, but if I am going to run into problems all the time with stuff going that high, ill just piece a 3" together, or see if RC will custom a kit together for me.
and I may or may not need an SYE, i have a 96 with the HP axle so I may be ok.. will find out when it gets on I supposed if I went higher.
Another positive note I am thinking about is with the components of the 4.5 kit I can go higher without replacing a bunch or parts, everything is adjustable up to 6" I believe.
heres whats getting lifted....

If you plan on keeping the body kit and offroading it, i would go atleast 4.5 inches. I have the RC 3" and it suits me well for my DD/weekend warrior, but if I had that body kit it would have been ripped and mangled on the trail.

As far as the kit, once its lifted and ready to get out there, the running boards and front/rear bumpers are coming off. Those are irreplaceable with it and I don't wan to ruin them.
And I may need the sye and may not, I know someone else with a 96 with the High pinion axle and 4.5 kit with no vibes... I know its the right way to go but if I get away with it til more money falls in my lap then ill be happy

Well I must have been misinformed on the front axle and what years the hp30 came in. I think I remember being told that it was hit or miss in earlier years than mine, that all 96s had them, and that 97 and up they switched to the LP.

And the front axle isn't why your would need a SYE. Its the rear that gets the SYE.
Again, at 4.5" you'll almost definitely need one.

At 4.5" a TC drop will work just fine for you. It's the more inexpensive way to go so long as you have no intentions of ever lifting higher. As you found during your research most kits for XJs over 3" come with a TC drop kit.

Thanks for the info, I like the idea of going higher, but its also gotta be a daily driver.... and well I maybe drive it 20 miles a week since I have a work truck. I like what that kit comes with, maybe I will call them to see about piecing a 3 inch kist with similar components for that height.

the most important question hasnt even been asked, which would be what kind of wheeling are you planning to do and what size tires are you thinking? Without knowing why you need a lift its impossible to recommend the right one

Well, nothing too crazy, but I don't want to be limited either. I don't wanna get in spots where rolling it would be chanced. I have some 31s I got cheap for now... till I can afford new tires whether it be 31s or 32s. I'm not going to be mudding it, if I can help it.
