Is the passenger TRE on the top or the bottom of the knuckle? Flipping the passenger side is a little tougher. You have to use the TRE for a RHD in the place of the LHD one for the taper to be facing the right way for the draglink.

LOL! I assume you are referring to the piece with a Zerk fitting on the passenger side axle shaft? That is a aftermarket seal to keep foreign material out of the tubes. It is curious that there isn't one on the driver's side. Most reviews of the aftermarket seals says they cause more problems than they solve. I'd suggest you leave it in place until the next time you pull the axle shaft, then toss it.

As far as the passenger TRE, the stock setup has it on the bottom. Swapping the driver's side to the top of the knuckle is a common swap to gain ground clearance. If done correctly, it's a good mod. I suggest you take the joint apart to inspect, if done wrong it could be the cause of your troubles.

Worst case, the driver's side TRE flip was done poorly. Then I suggest you get another driver's side knuckle and install the TRE on the bottom side. That's another mod that I think is more trouble than it is worth.

It's not a big deal. The passenger axle shaft seal has me concerned, what else is short cutted on the rig. Go over the rig with a fine tooth comb for other inconsistencies. Don't sweat it though, these XJs are cheap and easy to play with.

If I am seeing that correctly, the driver side TRE is OTK and the pass is still UTK...

I would suggest yanking the stock steering out period and upgrading to something more reputable...the stock steering is about as strong as a McDonalds straw and with any amount of lift the steering geometry becomes problematic.
