So I happen to stumble on a lockright and 456 gears at the jy out of a 98 dodge with a 44 front. From what I was reading and looking at gears and carrier ratios everything should work but I'm not sure. My question is, is the lockright, carrier and gears going to work with an xj 44? In that case I'll go back and get the rest since I only picked up the lockright for 15 bucks.

Yup. Both are low pinion 44s and 30 spline. Make sure you replace the bearings when you install it in yours. Who knows how old they are and how well they were installed plus it's cheap insurance. Also check the gears and make sure they don't have chips or a sharp edge from a bad set up.

I'd get a spring kit for the lockright as well, they are 15 bucks. The springs wear out on those much quicker than other lunchboxes and then they don't lock up, just click and it lets the teeth chip and wear off.

Well as most of the info here was correct. Something to be aware of
The dodge disconnect front D44 used a crush sleeve in most all of them. SO....
IF you look at the gear set see if the pinion has a ledge on the shaft about mid way. If it is a smooth type radius all the way from bearing to bearing then that gear set is a stock D44 style that Has to have a crush sleeve. If there is a step/ledge on the shaft then it should be a aftermarket style and use preload shims.
If in question, post a picture of it here and I will let ya know.

Well I am pretty sure you need to use a crush sleeve with the stock pinion. But your pinion looks to have a ledge that might support just using preload shims. I would get both and try the shims first as they are more reliable, and if they just dont sack up enough or cant setup right with them, then use a sleeve.
After looking at that pinion again, it appears that it might be an aftermarket gear set? Is there a Dana name on it? if not then it might be aftermarket and just use shims.

I didn't see any dana name on it I'll get a pic of the engraving on the pinion and ring gear, more then positive that it's a aftermarket set of gears as a local 4x4 shop did the lift and everything else. Seeing as they had the warning stickers from superlift on the wheel wells and business cards in the truck.
