dana 35 Chromoly axle shafts
Ok don't flame me to hard. My 97 has a D35 i wont to re gear it to 456 front and rear. I have no planes on locking the rear. Just the front for now. 33" tires is what i run. Now i no i can just bolt a 8.25 in but that will cost about $200 and some for new u-bolts and such. Or i just upgrade my 35 with Chromoly axle shafts for $250.00. Will that be as strong as the 8.25 with that upgrade? O and before you say just' find a ford 8.8 i don't have the fab skills to all that work. What should i do

The shafts are not the only weak point in the D35, heck I'v been threw 3 yokes and I havnt broke a shaft yet in my d35.
IMO, any money invested in a d35 is a waist of time.

The 8.25 would be cheaper and stronger. It's what I would like to swap in eventually but I'm wanting one with 4.10 and lsd so I don't have to regear or anything. But for now my d35 has a truss that the po installed so I'm confident it'll do alright for a little while longer.

I would take a 8.25 over any form of 35. The 8.25 is a very stout axle.
Down the road if you want to upgrade and go to a little taller tire and lock the rear you will be good to go.

OP, if you do go ahead and keep the 35 truss the **** out of it, they like to flex. Also, get the super 35 kit. If I remember correctly it comes with 29 or 30 spline shafts and a locker.

Ya I'm going with a 8.25 I already found on at a local junk yard. for 200.00 Its coming out of a 98 So it should have 29 spline right? I will verify to make sure to.

8.25 will hold a 35 with stock shafts if youre not too hard on the skinny pedal, the 35 will break stuff on 31s primarily due to the housing flexing, weak spiders gears, and smaller shafts. i never had the bad luck with my dana35 and 33s but then again i had 3.55s which is what probably saved it from breaking parts.
if you can while you have the 8.25 out i would do a disc brake swap on it.

The dana tirdyfive (35) isn't worth a nickle with chromoly shafts or any other shaft. It will break regardless and anything over 31" tires would be pushing it. 4.56 will kill it, not even sure you can put those in there. Get the 8.25, in stock format and 29 splines it can handle up to 35" tires but at that point I would definitely think about new shafts.

I have a dana 35 with chromoly axle shafts and 4.56 G2 gears and I got great deal on all of the parts. I dont wheel hard, rocks or heavy inclines but go offroad peridocially and no problems.

It doesn't hurt to double check the spline count. It would suck to get it home & THEN find out someone swapped the axle out.
