Default Is this a Dana 35 or c8.25?

Hey all,

My research tells me this is a 8.25, but I still want the clarification. Sorry its so dirty need to get under there with a pressure washer. If it is a 8.25 exactly how strong is it and does it have c-clips? Also its a 2001 xj.

Thanks!

Pic is broken

Chances are its an 8.25 since its a 2001, but to comfirm it...

Is the bottom part of the differential (pumpkin) flat?

If yes, its an 8.25, if no its a dana 35

Yes, that's an 8.25. It's fairly stout and can handle 33's with no other mods to the axle. I would say it's just below a Ford 8.8 in strength. Better than a D35 for sure.

Awesome. Its weird I could have sworn this thing had ABS, and I figured that's why I had to have a 35. Then I got under there and looked and saw the flat bottom and decide to check it out. Thanks for the reply's guys

Like said it is a 8.25" and being newer then 97 its the 29 spline version, it does have c-clips but aside from that its a pretty nice and tough axle. I'd put it about equal to a Dana 44, with the only shortcoming being the c-clip axles, and also like said just below a Ford 8.8 (at least as far as popular XJ axle choices go) which is also a c-clip axle btw.

The chryco 8.25 is not as strong as a D44 its barely stronger then a D35, over all its an okey axle

It is not the world's near axle but it's definitely amuch better option than the d35. It's close to a d44. I would not put then equal but not too far apart.

And what are you basing this statement on? Axle shaft diameter? Axle tube diameter? Ring and pinion size?
