yeah that's totally worth it. stuff it with parts and swap it in. it's even better this way because there's less down time on your rig
sweet looking xj by the way. I'm digging the green trim.

the only thing that's different about it is the pinion. and after a quick google search I confirmed that yes it's a direct swap (as suspected)
the only issue I could forsee is you might need a shorter drive shaft but that's no big deal at all you can pull one from a junk yard

also pulled this quote from an LP to HP swap thread
"HP 30 is 30% stronger due to gear drive configuration and the pinion is higher away from rocks"

so there's another reason why swapping is a good idea

As far as I understand anything other then 97-99 hp d30 has smaller weaker ujoints. I dont know if you could just replace those with the ones that go in the 99 or if there's more to it.

it's 95-99(01?) that have the 297 joints. they're all swapable because they're all 27 spline I need to go pick up some spares for my D30

yeah just go grab whatever the hell one you can find as long as it's not vacuum disconnect. you need spares if you're gonna lock it anyway so you'll end up at the JY pulling shafts no matter what

What sand dunes are you at in the pictures? Nice looking jeep BTW. I am also thinking of finding a HP dana 30 for mine before I gear it.
