dana 30 swap questions...and pics of the new lift
hey yall i just recently got done lifting the wifes jeep and its about time for gears and lockers, question is..its a 2000 cherokee, 4.5 rc, 33s, with a LP dana 30 in it but i have a dana 30 HP from a 96 parts jeep just laying around would it be worth it to swap the axles while im doing the gears and lockers or should i just leave the LP in it? i need to figure it out before i can order gears, the jeep is her DD but its also a weekend wheeler, it will be wheeled almost every weekend through the seasons.....ill atach some pics of it .....and yes her jeep is getting done before mine but happy wife happy life i guess, ill just have to wheel hers untill mines done...

yeah that's totally worth it. stuff it with parts and swap it in. it's even better this way because there's less down time on your rig
sweet looking xj by the way. I'm digging the green trim.

the only issue I could forsee is you might need a shorter drive shaft but that's no big deal at all you can pull one from a junk yard
also pulled this quote from an LP to HP swap thread
"HP 30 is 30% stronger due to gear drive configuration and the pinion is higher away from rocks"
so there's another reason why swapping is a good idea

the only thing that's different about it is the pinion. and after a quick google search I confirmed that yes it's a direct swap (as suspected)

yeah just go grab whatever the hell one you can find as long as it's not vacuum disconnect. you need spares if you're gonna lock it anyway so you'll end up at the JY pulling shafts no matter what

What sand dunes are you at in the pictures? Nice looking jeep BTW. I am also thinking of finding a HP dana 30 for mine before I gear it.
