Dana 30 4.10. M axle assembly rhd
Looking at regearing and upgrading axle shafts on a non disco Dana 30 out of a 1988 cherokee XJ. While searching for parts I found complete axle assemblies for sale but they are for 1996 RHD cherokees DANA 30 4.10. M AXLE ASSEMBLY RHD. It looks like the trackbar and stabalizer brackets are on the left side and those would have to be swaped to the other side. For the price of a brand new axle it seems cost effective to get the new axle and avoid the knickel and diming of overhauling the existing axle. Does anyone have experience or installed one of these axles and might have some tips.

For 1k you can build a d44 for your xj To me it is more work then it is worth. You would have to cut and weld new brakets.. or you can build a right hand side trac bar.
I would also check to make sure it is a HP d30.. otherwise you are losing strength in the ring gear.

I bought a complete hp d30 from a 97' for 100 bucks. Found it on craigslist. The owner gave me the whole steering setup ( better than mine) as well.

I don't mind doing the work but I think a dana 44 is out of the question because I don't think my welder can handle welding the knucles. I've been looking for a dana 30 out of a newer xj with 4.10 but kind of hard to find. I guess I'll just keep lookin.

For that kind of money you can have a shop install what ever gears you want. A good shop would charge between 350-500 labor for a gear install. Gears and master install kit maybe 300, JY carrier 50-75. So maybe 725 and you have a D/30 with 4.10 gears and no modification needed.

I think I'm gonna keep the axle, r2 the ball joints with some moogs, get a 3.73+ carrier and put the 4.10's in myself and then upgrade the axle shafts with some 297 shafts out of a later model xj. Thanks for the inputs!
