Default D-30 Front Locker writeup?

I'm looking to see if there is a there is already a good write up for a front Lockright type install. I found the Write up for the rear c clip axle install but nothing for the front.

I picked up a NIB lockright for a song, and am preparing to install it in the near future. I've done lots of shadetree work, lifts, engine and electrical work but have never been inside a diff cover and am looking for as much of a heads up as possible before I start. I also plan to replace all the seals and U-joints as what I have read so far says I'll have to remove the axles anyway.

It's a 89 with non disconnect 30 front, non c clip 35 welded rear, 3" lift 33's and a 4.0 auto

You can get the install sheet off Lockrights web site. All the lunch box lockers I've put in front axles require removing the diff and pulling the ring gear off to get the center pin out. Unlike a c-clip rear you can install the front on your work bench, retorque the ring gear bolts and put it all back in.

If you've got a 3.55 or higher gear sometimes you can get away with shaving the tip off one or two of the ring gear teeth to clear the center pin.

Then you'll prolly have to pull the carrier to do the install.

When I put my aussie in I was putting in my 4.56s so I did it before the ring and pinion and can't say if you will have center pin issues. Pull the cover and see if it'll clear. BTW where does it say 3.73s? Factory gears for an auto with the 4L is 3.55. Towing packages had lower gears but also had the rear 44.

Did it in about 4 hours, 1/2 the time was trying top get the outer bearings off, they had 22 years of rust to get through. I did wirewheel the knuckles and bearings and applied a bit of grease so when I have to change a shaft in the future it should be quick and easy.

I took the truck out the next morning and did some snow wheeling with the local 4x4 club and put it through it's paces and it performed very well
