cutting stock fender flars
alright folks, i'm the type of jeeper that loves mudding and just slingin crap from my wheels on my jeep; i already have offset rims that came on my XJ when i bought it but it just doesn't please me when i'm muddin. So i had the bright idea i'll either A. buy more offset rims (which is not in the funds right now) or B. cut my stock fender flars to get more mud kicked up on my XJ, haven't really seen people cut XJ fender flars always saw wrangler flars cut or people just take em off, if you've cut your stock flars let me see em and how much ya cut off,

You can't really cut the flares. Flares are hollow, and cutting any part of them off would look terrible. I think you may mean that you want to remove the flares and trim the fenders, but you mentioned that you haven't seen many XJ guys do what you want. This is where I'm confused, because tons of XJ's have trimmed fenders. If you want pictures, all you have to do is google it.

Trimming the stock flares is a pain and ineffective. You are better off removing them, trimming the metal and coming up with something else. Just the nature of the beast :)
You could get wheel spacers although they are not usually recommended. |
The flares are hollow cheap plastic its easier to remove them to try to cut them.
|
Or you could remove them and make your own flat flares from lawn edging any width you wish.
Search and you can find all the details. |

Check your state laws about fender flares,Some states its a ticket if you get pulled over.

The factory flares on my 1990 xj cut easy with aviation snips. on mine I removed a bunch of flare on front fender, removed the lower portion in front. I also trimmed some of the fender metal that is hidden under the flare as I was getting rubbing there too. I got a 5.5 inch lift, 33x 12.5 tires.
later model factory flares are different than that on my 1990. Mine are not hollow, but rather kind of a distorted U shape. trimming was piece of cake. |
