Default cutting rear lower quarter panel

Whats up guys ok so I know alot of people do the cut and fold rear quarter panel but my were rusted pretty bad has a huge hole in it. So i cant really fold anything lol. Anyway I got started on cutting it and just have a question.

The inner metal piece Im wondering how to cut it, should I just cut straight across or try and remove it all. But i think its a seam weld or something at the top so might be hard.

Figure I would cut the rust out and then weld a new piece since its the only thing I can really do.

I just ran into the same issue on mine. I was just going to cut it all out and weld a piece across the top to seal up the inside. Keep posting on your progress. It'll be interesting to see what you end up doing. If I get mine done first I'll post about it

This is the part where it was spot welded to the inner metal piece, but since it was rusted i pulled it down, pried it open with a flat head screw driver and use a pneumatic hammer love that thing. Split the two pieces easily.

Now it was time to cut this part off which was normally bend up but like i mentioned I pulled it down to separate the pieces.

Heres what it looked like before.

I also need some advice on what thickness metal sheet to use? I never welded before might have to see if a friend can do it for me or maybe I can buy one and learn.

Left the seam and just cut right under it on the crease, so it looks like that.

Now just have to reconfigure the gas line protection piece so it fits.
