custom lift ideas
So i have a very odd picture of what i want my jeep to do / look like. i dont want a giant lift 2 or three inches would be perfect but i want flex . Ive read the low cog sticky and have devised a lift for my jeep and i want to know if it plausible and would work. im thinking 3inch coils for the front and shocks with swaybar disconnects and new track bar all bought seperately then the rear would be a 2i ch add a leaf with 1.5 inch boomerang shackles. i know that would equate to 3 in front and 3.5 in rear but i am compensating for the roof basket and cargo weight in the rear. 30 or 31 inch tires and stock bump stops im looking for more droop vs compression and i figure running slightly smaller tires would grant me some wiggle room in both up and down travel. then a power trax locker up front and an sye in the near future. i want that sweet family trail beater look with a "sleeper" side that all my buddies wouldnt get to see till i want to show them what my little xj can REALLY do. i know it sounds like im trying to get fighter jet performance out of a cessna but i believe it is totally doable any thoughts? Oh and my reasoning behind the add a leaf 2 inch is i want there to be suspension in back but level enough to flex a little and keep the shackle angle (hence the boomerang shackles) at roughly 45 degrees

OP. if you want low with slightly bigger tires then you're gonna have to know that fender trimming is gonna have to happen. At the moment on my 2" lift and cut fenders, I can stuff 33" tires if I want and be fine on clearance.

Oh I understand that if I wanted to go much bigger some trimming would be in order . I might cut a small amount for some wiggle room ( 1/4 inch maybe 1/2 inch) but not much more 32s would b awesome but I figure that would be for a later date. Kinda want to see how much I like it with 30s or 31s and I can always tweek and add things from there always room for improvement . And I may follow up in the future with long arms but for now id like to see how well this set up runs dont fix it if it isn't broke kinda stuff ya kno

Forget the AAL. Relocation brackets and lift shackles will get you 2" and ride the same or better than stock. It will also set you up if you do go bigger later.
If set on AAL absolutely only do it if you find one that goes eye to eye. Ran a Zone 3" AAL for less than a year and it warped my main leaf as it stopped 6" short of the rear eye.

You want lowCG.. Then you want long arms from say a 6" lift and springs from a 3" lift. Do some trimming and mount some 33-35" tires. Yeah, yeah, this is the very abridged version. The shocks you'll have to research.. I'm not sure what they do to get shocks that fit in the space available in a 3" lift and still have travel to droop as much as the arm want to go

For the proper amount of droop you're talking you're going to need some serious bumpstops and shocks for a bigger lift to get the most amount of droop possible. I think you'd be better with 33's and 3" of lift IMO. With the proper amount of trimming and bumpstops anything is possible.

I've been doing some research on shocks here and I think unless I am going to raise the mounts and cut holes in the rear floor for mounts I may be somewhat limited in that department but I'll keep looking. I think I found a set from rustys offroad though that might work but this has been awesome input all around thank u the build will begin here shortly and so far it seems everything is coming into place

As far as shocks go, you'll have to put it together, flex it out, and measure for compressed and extended lengths. In my case, I ended up with 4.5" lift shocks on a 1.5" lift on 33's, along with new control arms, extended brake lines, track bar, and no sway bars. Had amazing flex, enough downtravel that the coil springs could come completely off the upper mount. Still just as flexy at 3" lift on 35's, very capable offroad.
I like your plan, except for the aal. Some HD replacement springs would give you about 1.5" of lift, along with 1.5-2" shackles and low profile shackle relocation brackets would give you plenty of travel and hold up better than an aal.

Now by HD replacement springs do u mean stock springs just more beefy ? And I agree. The aal wasn't the first choice but alternatives have been somewhat hard to find :\ and rustys offeoad claims their aal line up to stock but I'm definitely open to better haha

Yeah, they're just a heavy duty stock replacement spring. But after getting them broken in, they still gave me 1.5" of lift by themselves.
