Currently paintin plastics! Having an issue!
Hey,
So I'm painting my trim and bumper plastics (like right now) and I've ran into a problem. I sanded all the pieces and rubbed them with paint thinner and then rubbed it off. I just put my first coat of krylon fusion satin black and I'm getting a lot of what I believe is called fisheyes. I'm letting the first coat dry now and I'm going to wet sand again before applieig more coats. Does the first coat do that? I've never done this before :( |
Pics? If its a shine type of deal maybe more coats will help, if its a texture thing I'm sure wet sanding will help. Is the paint made for plastic or metal?

You likely still have an oil or unclean surface. Wet sanding is okay for this but since its exterior I would knock it with dry 600 and then clean it again. Then apply a few coats in intervals. Make sure the coats have time to "flash" before applying your next coat.

Did you possibly ever use an armor all or similar product, that can occasionally soak into the plastic a bit.
|
i did not use any oily thing on it. as for pics i gotta "dumb" phone and cant do that where i am. i can explain it though, theres little dry spots all over them, and the second coat didnt help much :( what wierd is that the bumper stop arnt really having the problem i mean they have a lil here and there but nothing worth noteing. its just the trim pieces, they are covered in them and i used the same process on the whole batch... nothings ever easy for me haha. oh and the paints for plastic which the pieces are made of

All my similiar problems cleared up with the 2nd coat when I did my entire Jeep in flat black. You could also hit it with some primer first.
|
my advise would be get a degreaser, give it a wipe, keep the part (if possible) away from wind, debris ect, hit it with primer, let dry, sand, then paint
