Default crazy idea that might work?

so i was looking at my jeep the other day and realizing how bad of shape the bottom is and i had a stupid idea that just might work.

i want some imput on this, but heres the idea(i know some of your ideals will be scrap it and buy a new one but i dont want to i like this yellow one)

my frame rails are starting to rot away big time in certain spots so what i was thinking is to start off weld a piece of plate steel down the whole length of the rail. then from the edges of that weld a plate on each side to the floor, kind of like a new frame rail right over the top of the old one. then put gussets down the whole inner and outer to strengthen it.

so what do you think? plausible or stupid? i would do it next summer

I thought about doing this just the other day. And adding front and back bumpers bolted on to it. Reason being, if i need to be pulled out or pull someone out of a rut, the entire unibody would be strong enough to do it.

Lots of folks do this. Or you can buy frame stiffeners from a vendor.

One guy even cut the entire subframe out and fabbed a full frame for his.

There's nothing wrong with that... You just need to remove all the rust first... Very important.

Yes, and also make sure there is plenty if good material to work with.

If there is nothing to weld to that is solid, this will all be done for nothing.
