Default Cowl Snorkel Filter fail

So i have had this home brew about a year and half. It has the only filter I could find local to fit. I noticed my throttle was sticking and found parts of the paper filter caught in the TB. Not sure how it got that wet since the passenger side is covered. But regardless, anyone know if a cotton cone style filter I can fit in that small area. Has to have a a 3" inlet, and I think the max diameter of the base is like 5"

i would try a stainless wire mesh filter. i had one from blitz on an old supra, and it worked fine as far as i could tell. the smallest base is 150mm though, may have to find another brand for different sizes. gl

dont think its a cowl snorkel fail but a cowl drainage fail/maintenance fail , last pics shows a lot of crap that should have drained out of the cowl or checked after serious off roading or so

Problem is you got it wet and then it got dirty and then it tore trying to breathe.

Wet filters need to be replaced.

The problem with inline filters if there's no place for the moisture to go except in the filter. Whereas the stock filter has a lower chamber for the wetness to go

Which is totally fine, and has been for decades in millions of OE applications, since you're not supposed to soak them with mud. I like hating on Fram oil filters but you must've turned off your logic before posting this. No OE air filter is designed to get wet.

I used a Ractive filter with a 3" inlet (approx 3.5" at the top and 5.5-6" base). It was a right fit, and I had to use a hammer to bend the bottom of the cowl down to have clearance for the plastic cowl cover to fit back on nicely. I got the filter on a local classified site. It's the reusable type with the stainless mesh.

Why are people putting air filters in there if water can get it?

Frees up the spot where the original air cleaner sat, can put a number of toys there like an extra battery. Some commercial kits have an inline filter that sits in the pipe over the engine itself, but this is out of reach for most people making their own. Guess the OP didn't quite realize the ramifications. Lol

Personally I think you should switch back to the oe airbox and do it like dukie did. I think that will save your filters and you can just use stock air filters. You should be able to find some sort of specter or k&n or something like that to fit at your local parts store if you wanted to stick with it like you have it..
