Default cowl air intake?

I've been searching around for intakes and i'm not to impressed by the ones Ive been seeing until i saw the thor 4x4 cowl intake kit, is there a downside of having your intake in your cowl?

just let me know what ya think

When the filter is under the screen it WILL get wet. I personally like the spectre kit. The filter is IN the tubing, and the hole is cut on the driver's side.

I don't actually have it though, I just like the design.

X2
yeah closed on the passenger side and open on the drivers side.

If you can squeeze your intake into the drivers side you will be covering a shorter distance. That, in turn, will also eliminate the intake tubing going over the engine and thus heating your colder air you are striving for. It is cramped on the drivers side because of the wiper motor and arms but I am sure if all your doing is cutting a hole in the firewall to run the tube to, then the fact that the cowl is cramped will make no difference.

I have been trying to make up my mind on what to do as well. just open it up and take a look

sorry yeah i got ya. i think as long as you dont sink your xj your chances are real slim. rain shouldn't be a factor, aside from maybe moisture in the air. it would be real hard for water to make it from drivers side to passenger, and if it does it will be underneath the filter. But so to go back to what i mentioned earlier, if that tube travels over the engine, you will want to insulate it as best as possible from the heat

yeah. you can also get a dryer vent hose and just slide that over it. its pretty thin so yeah you can wrap it too, but its flexible and it helps create an air barrier between the two layers which helps

Here's the one I did and it uses the factory box and filter. It never gets wet.http://portagecountyjeepclub.org/for....php?f=30&t=63

It works great too. I've had it in just over 2 years now and love it. I spent less than $20 on it.
