Question Couple questions on sye...I searched

I'm about to order a aa sye but it gives the option for a cv yoke or non cv yoke. I read that the difference is on how the straps bolt to the yoke. It looks like people run the cv yoke with a stock front ds in the rear but I just wanted to be sure before ordering.

I plan on running a stock front ds in the rear. Brings me to my second question. Whats the lowest lift you can run with a stock front ds in the rear? I know I need to measure but haven't had time. And besides it seems like a crap shoot since unless I knew where the new yoke would be sitting. I also have a chart with years and ds lengths so when I go to the junk yard and I get the correct size.

Any advice would be great. Thanks

96 auto np231 c8.25 4" lift

SYEs are kinda hit and miss. Some need them and some don't. Is the yoke pulled out too far from your transfer case? And are there currently any vibrations while driving? These are two main questions to awnser.

I'd say non-CV. Some of the early XJs have CV-equipped front drive shafts that look like a stick going into a big soup can. The rest of them use a double-cardan setup which is just a couple of U-joints. As for length, there are many different lengths of compatible front DSes on XJs and ZJs that depend on a ton of options. Someone cleverer than I posted a list of them... somewhere...
