cooling system upgrade
im replacing original radiator with all metal csf 2670 2 row and the water pump going in is flowkooler high flow #1747.thermastat is robertshaw 330-195. should i just go ahead and add a zj napa part #272310 hd also? i live in hawaii so its on the warm side and slow moving heats it up quick

Ya you will need the fan to pull more air because the radiator is thicker and make sure that your A/C condenser is clean to let as much air though to the radiator .

I would think some one would make a better fan but I cannot find one but the heavy duty fan clutch from the Grand Cherokee does help spin the fan faster to pull more air .

I think the ZJ heavy duty clutch is the biggest one you can put in and will flow more air than pretty much any other setup on the market
It is louder than stock and will sap some power, but moves air like nothing else. The CSF radiators are beefy, but aluminum radiators have issues with the welds on the end-caps leaking. Very common issue, look it up. As a result, I run a cheap Spectra stock replacement. No issues in the hot Florida heat, or in Colorado summers which can top 100*F The flowkooler pump is a solid choice though. Only pumps more fluid till ~2000 rpm, then it matches stock. |

Keep an eye on the end tanks and where the fins mate to the tubes. CSF's are known to crack, especially under abuse. Aluminum doesnt have material memory, copper does. Get the ZJ Fan clutch.

One thing I forgot to mention, with the ZJ clutch you want to make sure your motor mounts are in good shape, especially with a thicker radiator. Can't remember the exact spacing differences, but I think it sticks out 1/2" or more towards the radiator compared to the stock fan clutch. If your motor mounts are shot, you might punch a hole in the radiator when off-roading or hitting a big pothole.

I have the Champion 2 row all aluminum radiator I have had it for more the a year now and no problems and it did come with a lift time warranty . lots of people just use a stock replacement and it works just fine , it's up to you what radiator to use but for me the bigger the better , but thats just me .

Well, I probably should have asked questions on this forum before I thought I had enough info to make a radiator decision. I'm going to find out here shortly if this project was worth it or not. I'll let you know if crap goes flying everywhere! |

update:
Thank you for the input on my project. Everything went together without any problems. The only thing i had to modify was the bracket connecting the ac cooler to the radiator. I used hard rubber grommets to fill the space and longer bolts. Easy fix. The noise from the zj fan clutch isnt bad at all and is a great upgrade with the highflow pump etc, The running temp is 165 or so and the electric fan never even comes on anymore. This upgrade is better than i expected and i hope the C.S.F. radiator holds up for a while. Summer will be the true test but so far so good.

So, I went out to double check again and let it run for 20 or so minutes. The temperature gauge sat pegged at half way between 150 & 210 for several minutes then it climbed up to 195 at sat there at idle with no fluctuation in temp.
When I'm driving the temp stays at 170 or ?. But, it never goes up to near the 210 mark when driving. |
