This is the driver side. Note the coil relation to the coil tower.

Here is the passenger side. Its fine. I am getting a rattle on the driver side when turning left. I did have this jeep aligned at a 4x4 shop as soon as lift was put on. Its on my 01 xj with a 4.5 rc lift. Adjustable upper and lower control arms and adjustable trac bar. I dont remember it being like this before but i am not 100 sure it wasnt either.

The axle is not straight under the front end. It is farther back on the drivers side.

Wow, that's pretty bad.........how'd you come up with that?

We're you asking me or OP?

codykrr 12-22-2015 06:27 PM

if it was directed at me. i followed the recommended rc lengths for adjusting control arms. the 4x4 shop said not to fret them to bad as they would be adjusted anyway. so i assumed all was good. ive wheeled it about 5 or six times since then(lift was put on in april of this year) nothing hardcore... but still wheeled it. not sure if maybe that caused the issue... or if alighment was way off to begin with... it was taken to a reputable shop here in SW mo. literally all they do is install lifts...and 4x4 stuff... its drives pretty good believe it or not.. i did measure from center of my wheel on both sides and i got 101 and 3/4 inches. on both sides.. not sure whats going on... hence the reason im asking potential causes... first assumption is front axle isnt straight. but whats the best places to measure from?

Directed at OP..........

Wrong pinion angle or something...........

Don't know without looking at the entire set up.

How are your caster shoe adjustments? Maybe you are missing the shims on one side and pushed the axle back?

Baddad 12-22-2015 10:53 PM

I've had the same problem except on the passenger side. No adjustable arms or anything. Finally had to use a bottle jack & tweek the guide back a bit just to keep the spring from rubbing. Drives great, just weird! I'd like to figure it out tho, any other suggestions?

Arms adjusted to same length as passenger ?

Remove all shims not needed with adjustabe arms. Axles deff back on both sides spring should be on same angle as bump stop tower

is the coil bowing? i mean, it is a coil spring. they tend to do that.

IsomRonA 12-28-2015 03:13 AM

I think you have it right caged, a coil spring won't always rest "centered". Once it starts to sag, it may do it uneven. On one vehicle (not 4wd), I had to swap driver for passenger springs to stop the rubbing I was getting on the shock (mounted in the center of spring on said car). I doubt my fix will work in all cases, but it might be worth a try.

The spring doesn't look right in the pic like caged pointed out. It almost looks like the springs top seat coil is not centered on the rest of the coils. Send the pics to Rough Country and ask them what they think. They are very good at product support and will probably send you new ones. Good luck.
