Default Clanging Pinging Noise After Installing Lift 2WD XJ

Hello All,

I recently installed my RE 3.5" Leave Pack with my 1.5/2" RC Lift Shackles. So my XJ sit about 5" of lift in the rear. I took her for a spin and now I have a clanging pinging noise coming from mid to rear bottom of the car. I recently changed my U joints in June and regreased them before taking her for a test drive last week. There is no play in the Drive shaft if I twist it or shake it. The only thing I can think of that is wrong is Pinion Angle? Maybe my U Bolts need to be tighten after driving around a bit??

Tighten the bolts and look at the pinion angle. It could be off. You could try a transfer case drop for cheap to get the angle right.

Hi Thanks for the reply. My XJ is a 2WD / 5 speed, I have no Transfer Case. Pinion Angle seems to be pointing slightly Up. I will try tightening my U Bolts.

I know you don't have one but that's what they are called. It spaces the transmission cross member down to face the axle.

Ahhh Gotcha. Ok, I'll look into that as well. Would Degree Shims work as well???

They could. Not sure on how much you need. It's more of a case by case thing to tell how much you may need

I don't think so. I can hear the drive shaft clanging on take off or going a certain speed. There are no vibrations though. Definitely has to be pinion angle.

Well, I went out to 4wheel parts and picked up a RE TC Drop Kit. It took care of the problem. BooYah!!

Also, my shackles are not very new. They were on my XJ with my old 3" RC add a leaf for about 4 months. I may get some shorter ones to level out the rear. I have to say, she ride soOoo much smoother now. Cheers!!
