Default How to keep automatic tranny from downshifting?

I've got a 98 and a 99 and I live in Colorado. It's nice to put it in second when descending on steep trail roads to save the brakes, but after a while, it will downshift from 2nd to 1st. Since there is only the one position on the shifter for 1/2, is there any mod to make it stay in 2nd?

It's funny that you're wanting the jeep to stay in 2nd. Mine hardly ever wants to go into 1st. What I plan on doing is putting a switch to cut power to solenoid 2. You would have to do the opposite I believe.

My trans acts the opposite of that. When I'm in 1-2 I cannot get it to go into 2nd. I've never really been above 3k in first so idk if it will shift to 2nd but it doesn't want to. Also, when its in 3 it stays locked in 2nd going down hills in 4lo.

I think if you add a switch that sends constant power to solenoid 1 and 2 then you'll be locked into 2nd gear.

I think 97-up it will set off CEL. I've got an 01 that only stays in first when 1-2 selected. This xj is my wife's DD and the one we use as a family vehicle. Wish it would shift to second. It never gets any serious off-road use but there are times when I would use it. Just first is a little too slow.

Mine would shift out of 1st at between 1500 and 2000 when in 1-2. Wasn't suppose to up shift until 4k+. Cleaned my NSS switch because of no b/u lights, sometimes wouldn't start in park, then neutral. Cleaning fixed everything including the upshift rpm's.
