Cherokee projectors

I was just wondering if anyone has bought a set and if they like them and how bright they are.

Thanks for the pics. So you don't have hids? Are they still brighter than stock? I saw a pair that come with hids that I was thinking about getting but didnt want to waste my money on junk.

evilxj85 02-07-2011 08:27 PM

i have hids

1996XJSport 02-07-2011 08:58 PM

I bought a set of them off ebay for $20
They're the "projectors" with the "city lights" lol.
I basically retrofitted them with an HID kit and I'm still running the same setup.
They have a nasty cutoff line, the beam pattern is horrible, and I'm going to resolve the problem when it gets a little warmer out.
I bought actual projectors from the junk yard out of a daewoo leganza. They aren't fake like the ebay projectors, and they will be retrofitted into the housings I have right now. There is a writeup on doing the swap on
Go.Jeep-XJ.info
Check it out if you're looking to do the project.

The total cost for my HID kit, the housings, and the projectors is still only $65
so I'm definitely doing it on a good budget and I'll be yeilding the same results as people with kits that are worth hundreds of dollars.

U need to get a lower number hid. Like mine a 8000k hids and I have plenty of light.

rweaver138 02-08-2011 09:40 AM

where are you guys buying your hids from? have you also upgraded the harness?

jcwclm 02-08-2011 11:10 AM

Screw upgraded headlights. I use my off-road lights. haha

dschneider 02-08-2011 12:33 PM

I was going to buy them off eBay. I can get the lights and hid for about $130

Metmknice 02-08-2011 12:56 PM

True good projectors for XJ's bulge out. Urban Yan over at naxja forums has some.

evilxj85 02-08-2011 01:23 PM

ddmtuning.com for hids and no i did not upgrade my wire harness

xj^REMY 02-08-2011 01:47 PM

why not try some research before buying, installing, then bashing something because its not working how you thought

defining the amount of light output as 10,000K is not entirely correct. 10,000(degrees in Kelvin) defines the temperature of the light bulb, which puts that at the higher end of the visible light spectrum, further away from natural/white light where the most lumen is available...pure white is between 3,800-4,500K....gets into blue, then purple...u're blue/purple lights do not have high lumen output

HID headlamp burners produce between 2,800 and 3,500 lumens from between 35 and 38 watts of electrical power, while halogen filament headlamp bulbs produce between 700 and 2,100 lumens from between 40 and 72 watts at 12.8 V

upgrading the harness is necessary when running HIDs....u need ballasts to convert, increase, & control the current needed to operate the bulbs efficiently

projectors, do exactly that.....needed to control the light emitted by the HID electric arc within the bulb.....using a standard reflective housing will reflect the more intense light, thus blinding oncoming & scattering the benefits of HID

in a nutshell.....RESEARCH.....its all out there somewhere

I feel this is the most important, and beneficial part of ANY headlight upgrade. Even stock lights can be better when upgrading the wiring harness

dschneider 02-08-2011 03:42 PM

I am watching a pair on eBay and the hids come with the bulbs, relays, and ballast. And they are 6k so they should be a bright white. Just didn't know how well the projectors were made.
