Default cheap lift

geting a street legal xj, does any one know any cheap ways to lift an xj about 4 or more inches, just to fit my 36s under it, my current xj has about 4inch lift with cut fenders to fit 36s under them, cant afford a nice lift right now.

There really isnt such a thing as a cheap lift.... You should be prepared to spend about $400 no mater what you do. You can use f-150 coils and make an s-10 bastard pack, but the results are really based on how mechanically inclined you are. You might get lucky and find a used lift kit like I did, Get lookin on craigslist haha! You will still probably have to spend more money beyond that, for whatever various reasons... And remember youll be wanting new tires too. those aint cheap! Probably around $350 for those. Do all your research first, and dont go in blind. But dont cheap out on parts especially, its unsafe.

Edit: Just kidding you have tires already... Idk if you can get 4" out of a bastard pack lift, but new shackles arent that expensive, maybe 2" and with trimmed fenders youll be ok. Get ready for rub and no flex haha!

Weld on coil spring spacers. Metal ones. Then get brake lines, control arms or drop brackets, shocks and something to deal with driveshaft issues.

Got a couple of questions. If I put a 4.5 inch Rough country lift on. How much more am I looking at. Because they don't tell you the little stuff you need. Just trying to get an idea if it is better just to get a 2" lift so i can put 31's on or 4.5" and put 33's on. My plan is going to be a everyday driver but i can also take it on some mild trails. Thanks

Depends on the spacer. a 1" spacer will raise it 1" while a 3" spacer will raise it 3".

Drew - Who wants to see the OP try to fit 36s under 4" of lift . . .

Well I did my 3" lift for $230-245. I did a XJ on XJ bastard pack. I bought rusty's 3" fount coils for $100. And I also used YJ front shocks with ZJ rear shocks. for about 110ish. then other simple things for the last 20ish bucks.

Now if I was to do a 4" lift I'd still buy Rusty's coils. I'd probly still do a XJ on XJ bastard pack but if not I'd use the main from a S10 and the second along with your stock pack.(should give you 4 because just the main gives you 3" I believe.)

Then for Shocks id use JK Wrangler shocks. I would also maybe invest in BPE's. If you dont like bar pins.

You should be able to do it for about the same price I would think.

He made it sound like this was his "nice" XJ and my assumption being that he isn't going to hack up his "nice" XJ to the point necessary to fit 36s under a 3" lift.

4" and just because the fenders are trimmed doesn't mean its not 'nice'
