You can get custom built ones, if you have a core take it to an alternator specialist. As for swapping from something else I can't help you there bro

Try searching. I believe the grand Cherokee has an alternator that's almost perfect fit. Little grinding and it will fit. Not sure of what model or engine. But again try searching.

What year xj's though.. That's the thing.. Can you do that with an old waggy?... There is a what can I use from the scrap yard thread floating around.. Definitely worth a look and the zj v8 alternators are 136 amps I believe not all of them are that high ..so you have to check serial numbers when you pull them. Also depends on how many amps you want

True. I don't know the details of which alternators fit what. But I'm on here enough and have read enough to know there are alternators that fit our 4.0's from grands. But a few minutes searching here or even Google should yield some more detailed information.

As have I am planning on running a dual battery set up and I'm using 160 amp alternator from a Durango it's plug and play for the 99+ :P

Jay, here is another thread worth taking a look at not sure if t will work for you but do some research it just might work for you if 136 amps is enough for your application

Also Jay, that budget build thread I linked you to doesn't have everything you can use listed.. So do some research! I've found other things I can use for my jeep that is not listed on that list but it has a lot to start with

You can get them at the scrap yard for cheap. Bench test it. In Canada some parts stores will bench test alternators for you for free if you don't know how. Then you can take it back or what ever if it doesn't work.
