Default Changing Gear Ratios

Ok I've been reading a tonnnn of stuff about changing the gear ratios to get more power, however I guess im just not picking up on something, but how exactly do you change the ratios and what is the ideal ratio for 31" tires? Thanks!

Then going thru the science of setting the gears, or paying someone to do it.

as said above, it is the processo f changing the ring and pinion gear in the differential.
The ideal ratio depends on what you are doing with the vehicle. 3.73 would bring you back close to stock assuming you have an auto and 3.55's. 4.10 is a nice option to increase power, but will bring up your highway rpm.
again, depends on what you are doing with it. I found minimal difference from stock to 31's. To me it wasnt worth gearing for them, unless you really need the ratio for crawling or racing.

I would go with 4.10 because if u ever decide to go up in tires, like 33s u will still have good power. Now I have never setup gears before but have read so many tutorials and really did my homework and was going to do my own gears. With the amount of tools and time it takes I found a jeep guy on long island who gears a Dana axle for 200$ and a Chrysler 8.25 for $150. The axles must be removed from the truck or the price goes up. The amount of money in tools is about 4-500 i think if u were to do it yourself.

Also gears and bearing kits are like 300 per axle

Heres the guy http://solofabworks.com/
