Default Can you put a Dual Exhaust on a 1997 Cherokee?

I've searched the forum and can't find an answer, so here it goes.

I'm in the process in buying a 1997 Jeep Cherokee Country. I've never owned a Jeep before, so I don't have much experience with what you can and can't do to them.

I'm planning to put a Flowmaster Super 10 on it, and I really prefer to put dual tailpipes on my vehicles, but I've always had full size trucks, and I was told I might not be able to dual this one out. Is that true?

I figured I'd ask a group that has experience with Cherokees.

It can be done if your pockets are deep enough. If you really want that high of a flow run 3" pipe.

You can do it but there won't be much gain. It is an online motor so dual exhaust would involve a splitter after the exhaust manifold

I'm not wanting a true dual, just tailpipes, using a muffler thats single in, dual out. I was told that the Cherokee might not have enough room to run the other pipe.

You could really get into it with a pacesetter with an X pipe for the O2 sensor.

ive seen it done but its tight and costly, Xjs were not meant for duals so they didnt leave much room for em, im running 2.5" exhaust on mine and it doesnt even run all the way out the back cause it rubs on the leaf springs and the tank skid, so i have it run to just in front of the rear shackle.

Looks like the basic consensus is that it can be done, but not without it rubbing.

yes but it would sound like 2 angry firefly engines and i cant see it being done as the axle would beat the **** out of it, my header is like this but it goes to a Y-collector and its very tight at 2.5"....and if your thinking they are designed like this so you can run duals, your wrong. They are designed like such as a long tube header that provides better flow and less restriction.
